What's new on Hilingo: the September 2026 update

A bigger mock library across every exam, question translation in 50 languages, per-criterion marking on writing and speaking, and an explanation behind every objective answer. Here is what changed and why each piece matters.
Most of what we built this month was mock tests — a lot of them, across every exam we run. But volume on its own is not worth an announcement, so this update is organised around what each thing actually changes for someone preparing.

One honest note on how these are counted, because most platforms do not explain it: a section test is a section of a full paper, offered on its own. It is the same material presented two ways, not extra papers. We count it separately because using it is a different exercise — a timed reading section when you have forty minutes is a genuinely different thing from sitting a three-hour mock — but you should know what you are comparing when you look at anybody's numbers, ours included.
Question translation in 50 languages
This is the change we think matters most, and it is the one nothing else in this market seems to offer.
Any question, passage or transcript can be translated into 50 languages — Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Urdu, Vietnamese, Spanish, French, Arabic, Amharic, Filipino, Chinese in both scripts, and forty more. It runs across PTE practice, IELTS paper review, TCF, and inside the AI teacher.
Why it matters: a lot of practice time is wasted not because the English is too hard but because the question was misread. A candidate who understood the passage perfectly and misunderstood what was being asked loses the mark either way, and never finds out which happened. Being able to check the question in the language you think in removes an entire category of wasted practice.
Translations are cached across the platform, so a passage translated once is instant for everyone afterwards — and when a string cannot be translated, the original is shown and you are told, rather than being quietly served English and left to wonder.
Per-criterion marking, not one number
Writing and speaking come back broken into the criteria the real exam marks them on, not as a single score.
- IELTS writing is marked on all four band descriptors — task achievement or task response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy — each with its own band. Speaking is assessed across Parts 1 to 3.
- PTE answers are scored per criterion, with content, fluency and pronunciation reported separately.
The reason for it is simple: "your writing is a 6.5" is not something you can act on. "Your grammatical range is a 6 and everything else is a 7" tells you exactly where the next half band comes from.
An explanation on every objective answer
Listening and reading questions do not just come back right or wrong with the correct answer next to them. Each one carries the reason it was wrong and the evidence sentence quoted from the passage or transcript.
This is the difference between knowing you got question 14 wrong and understanding that you matched the wrong paragraph because the passage paraphrased the keyword. One of those changes your next attempt.
IPA-level pronunciation
On speaking tasks, pronunciation is reported down to the individual sounds in phonetic notation, not as a single score out of ninety.
"Improve your pronunciation" is not an instruction anyone can follow. Knowing that a specific vowel is consistently landing away from the target is. Available on PTE and TCF read-aloud tasks.
AI teacher and study centre
The AI teacher works from your own results rather than a generic syllabus — it has read your score report and can answer questions about your own answers, in your own language if you prefer.
The study centre collects the practice material and lessons around whatever your reports say is weakest, so the next session starts from your gap rather than from lesson one.
What is coming
TEF Canada mocks are in development, which will complete the French side alongside TCF Canada. OET follows. Both will arrive with the same scoring and feedback as everything above rather than as a thinner version.
