How is the TCF scored?
Objective tasks are marked against the answer key, item by item. The conversion to the exam’s scale uses the published tables where the test owner publishes them and our own documented estimate where it does not. Speaking and writing are scored per component by our own engine, following the exam’s published scoring guide, and mapped onto the scale below.

Questions about TCF
- TEF or TCF for Canada?
- Both are accepted by IRCC. Pick by test-centre availability and dates; the level required is the same (read as NCLC).
- How is my French writing and speaking marked?
- By a marker built for French, not an English one pointed at French text. Expression écrite is scored on grammar, syntax, vocabulary and conventions, plus coherence and task achievement. Every mark comes with the reason behind it.
- Can I practise before I pay?
- Yes. One full mock test, two AI-scored read-aloud attempts a day and two AI-scored writing attempts, plus the conjugation drills, before any plan.
- Is the read-aloud practice like the real thing?
- The topics are real exam topics. You record in French and get the passage back word by word and sound by sound in phonetic notation — the sound you produced against the sound expected — with your pause count, pace and fluency, so you can see where pronunciation is costing you marks.
- What if my French is not strong enough to read the feedback?
- The AI teacher answers in your own language — 51 of them, including Arabic, Haitian Creole, Wolof, Lingala, Hindi and Punjabi — and any passage on screen can be translated.
- What TCF Canada practice is there?
- Full TCF Canada mock tests and section tests across the four parts — a section test is one section of a full paper offered on its own, not an extra paper — plus 861 read-aloud topics and 431 conjugation drills as daily practice. The mocks run the real section timers end to end.
- Is the AI score the same as an official result?
- No, and we will not pretend otherwise. It is a coaching tool: use it to find which criterion is leaking marks and whether you are trending toward your target. The certificate only comes from a France Éducation international test centre.
